Walmer's new mall set to sizzle

Excitement is building as new centre gets ready to open its doors to the public next Thursday.

The 42000m² multi-million Moffett-on-Main shopping centre in Walmer will open its doors to the public next Thursday.

The centre - with 67 shops - is owned by Amber Mountain Investments 3 (Pty) Ltd. It is located on the corner of Main Road and the William Moffett Expressway in Walmer.

The construction, which began in December 2006, was carried out by WHBO Eastern Cape.

Centre spokesman Megan Zondagh said excitement was building up ahead of the grand opening next week.

“We are a lifestyle centre, which is unique to the Eastern Cape. The centre is aimed at meeting the needs and desires of modern individuals and families who demand more quality and diversity from their leisure time. Every effort is being made to ensure a “special” experience which stands apart from the usual shopping mall outing.

The centre‘s anchor tenants include: Blue Line Checkers, First National Bank, Mr Price Home &0x0026; Sport, @ Home, Planet Fitness, and House &0x0026; Home.

It boasts 1400 underground and ground level parking bays. All 67 shops have already been let out.

Zondagh said about 23500 cubic metres of concrete, 2100 tons of steel and 3,5 million bricks were used during construction.

“At peak we had more than 1000 people actively working on site,” she said, adding that this project had created 500 new permanent jobs.
