    Online at the airport

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), Internet Solutions (IS) and MWEB have joined hands to provide wireless hotspots at the country's largest international airports in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban so local and international travellers can log on to their email and the Internet, making check-in time more productive.

Following the global trend of recognizing that frequent fliers use the waiting time to catch up on emails, the three companies have launched the service in an easy-to-connect manner.

"If you are flying from any of these airports and have either an IS or MWEB account and a Wi-Fi enabled laptop or PDA, you'll be able to connect from anywhere once inside the airport," says Hillel Shrock, Director New Business at IS.

"Our goal with the roll-out is to provide our customers and other travellers with connection to their networks and the Internet at the majority of places they will use or visit. The airports are obviously prime sites."

André Joubert, general manager, MWEB Business says: "We are committed to improving the productivity of our customers when they are away from home or the office. By using a Wi-Fi device, laptop and PDA users will be able to connect to the Internet and email through an immediate and reliable connection."

All current users of IS will be billed on their corporate monthly invoice. Individual users will need to register with MWEB to use their main email address and password on this service.

"We have put a number of options into place for airport connectivity," says Nico Pretorius of ACSA. "Travellers can purchase time with a credit card. International travellers with existing accounts in their home countries can also log in directly through various hotspot roaming agreements such as WeRoam, IPASS or Quiconnect.

"Credit card users are provided with a username and password that can be used at any ACSA, Internet Solutions and MWEB Wi-Fi hotspot facility. Unused time can be utilised at a later stage or any of the other Wi-Fi Hotspot locations - of which there are now nearly 50 throughout the country."

At present, coverage is available in the airports' departure hall retail areas and at all departure gates of all three international airports as well as most of the airline business lounges. The InterContinental Airport Sun boasts in-room, foyer and meeting room Internet access.
