All systems go, for Afrikaans web-industry awards

Those in the business of creating clever digital Afrikaans, will be pleased to know that Afrikaans websites can now enter for Pendoring and the Copywriters' Forum's Advertisement of the Season advertising competition.

The idea of a separate electronic media category as part of the competition was put forward at a recent successful workshop, presented by Roelof van Wyk (creative director of Trigger) and arranged by Pendoring organisers, that focused specifically on Afrikaans websites.

Due to the interest and enthusiasm of those who attended the workshop, Van Wyk suggested that a separate electronic media category be introduced as part of the Advertisement of the Season competition. He felt that such a platform would encourage designers to create 'bigger and better' Afrikaans websites. Hopefully, it would also stimulate 'bigger and better' Pendoring web-entries that would ultimately improve the standard of the Afrikaans web-industry in general - not to mention the prestige and recognition associated with these awards, he said.

The proposal for an electronic media category was accepted unanimously by the Copywriters' Forum at its first meeting for the year last week - provided sufficient entries are received in each season. Another proposal to include point-of-sale entries in the competition's outdoor category was also accepted by the Forum.

The Copywriters' Forum also elected a new chairperson, Paul Brümmer, from the agency Blue, to take over from Annette Nel of Net#work BBDO. Nel became the Forum's first chairperson last year when it was revived again after years of silence.
