    Building communities together

The deadline for the 15th annual Sowetan, Old Mutual and SABC Community Builder of the Year competition, which highlights courageous community builders dedicating their lives to rebuilding the nation, has been extended to 17 June and company entries to 30 July 2005.

Thabo Leshilo, Editor-in-Chief of Sowetan, says: "The Community Builder of the Year has grown to become one of the key projects honouring the heroes of community development. We expect even bigger participation this year."

Projects that qualify for the awards should be unique and innovative, promote skills development and transfer, address and solve basic community needs or problems, not be linked to any political organization or party, inspire and encourage others to follow the example in community building, display community acceptance and participation, make a significant impact in the community, display project and financial sustainability and must have been in operation and funded for not less than two years.

In addition to the category awards, The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund will be recognizing projects that uplift the lives of children.

Nomination forms can be found in the Sowetan newspaper every Monday, until 13 June and on the Old Mutual website www.oldmutual.co.za. Alternatively, you can dial 083 123 7333 from a fax machine and the nomination form will automatically be sent to your fax machine.
