Gary Player to launch golf 'bible'

Democracy and growing economic empowerment is causing a revolution in golf: women now comprise half of all players, more than a third of golfers are black and in the last year membership of the Professional Golfers Association has more than trebled.

To assist and develop South Africa's golfing market, Gary Player, one of the world's most respected golfers, with Results Media, is launching a golfer's guide in June.

The Gary Player Golfers Guide will be the most complete compendium of golfing information yet released in South Africa. It will contain technical information on South Africa's top 40 golf courses as well as six major international golf courses hole by hole, and give advice on how the course should be played.

Golf estates have become coveted addresses for high income earners and the Gary Player Golfers Guide will profile the country's top golf estates.

Golf tourism especially from Europe and south-east Asia has also become a major component of tourism. SA Tourism says they have no specific statistics on golf but confirm that it forms a significant part of queries and bookings.

The Gary Player Golfers Guide will be given to guests at the Nelson Mandela Invitational golf tournament at the Arabella golf course near George later this year.

A fifth of the proceeds will go to the Gary Player Foundation which funds underprivileged children's education around the world. The Gary Player Golfers Guide will be available for R49.95 and can be obtained on the web by logging onto www.thepgaclub.co.za
