Media invited to summit against police killings on Friday

The media is invited to attend the summit against police killings being held 9am-4pm tomorrow, Friday, 8 July 2011, at Birchwood Conference Centre, Ekurhuleni. Minister of police Nathi Mthethwa will present a keynote address aimed at soliciting feedback from various stakeholders in dealing with the recent upsurge around the country.

Representatives from community police forums, business, civic organisations, media, research and academic institutions, NGOs, LeadSA, Shout Foundation, Business Against Crime and interfaith organisations will share some of their expertise in helping government tackle this issue.

The summit will include a keynote address by the minister, as well as break-away commissions which will tackle various topics and then report-back sessions afterwards. There will also be a signing of a summit pledge by all stakeholders, which will ensure that agreements and programmes agreed to at the summit are implemented and to avoid this session being just another talk show without tangible outcomes.

All members of the media are invited to attend at any time of the day.
