    Unions, SABC agree on wages

The organised labour unions, the Broadcasting, Electronic Media and Allied Workers Union (BEMAWU), Communications Workers Union (CWU) and Media Workers Association of South Africa (MWASA) and the SABC have reached a one-year agreement for salary and substantive negotiations for the 2011/12 financial year.
    Unions, SABC agree on wages

All parties have agreed that the corporation will pay employees, in the bargaining unit, an 8.07% salary adjustment across the board, backdated to 1 April 2011. In addition the parties have agreed to an adjustment to the housing allowance, to R1 350 per month, across the board for employees on scale codes 300-409, also with effect from 1 April.

The parties are confident that with the increase in salary, the increase to housing, and the collapsing of the 2 scale codes, which equates to 9.5%; will boost employee morale.

The SABC is happy that the negotiations were concluded in an amicable manner, which served the interests of all parties concerned, specifically the employees of the organisation.  The board and management remain committed to providing a conducive environment, which will continue to retain and attract the best talent in the broadcasting industry.
