Deadline extended for CNN MultiChoice African Journalist 2005

The deadline for receipt of entries for the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist 2005 Competition - on this its 10th Anniversary - has been extended to 25 March 2005. This will give more journalists the opportunity to be part of the longest running, most prestigious Pan African Awards for Journalism in Africa.

The CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year aims to reinforce the importance of the journalist's role in Africa and to recognise and develop journalistic talent across all disciplines.

The competition is open to African professional journalists/technicians including African freelancers working on the continent for media organisations that are African-owned or principally based in the region or publish in Africa a publication which is targeted at an African audience for reception within Africa. As the competition strives to encourage freelance journalism throughout Africa, the judges welcome independent entries from African freelance journalists and technicians.

The judges will be looking for work which:

  • Tells the story in a clear and balanced manner.
  • Communicates stories or issues from Africa in a comprehensive way.
  • Has made these stories or issues accessible and relevant to their audiences.
  • Demonstrates investigative and journalistic flair.
  • Displays well organised research, depth and insight.
  • Was broadcast or published between January and December 2004, with proof supplied.
