In terms of the agreement, the committee will in due course schedule an open meeting with the SABC board to discuss the functionality of the board; the appointment of the group executive: news and current affairs; and the broadcaster's turn-around strategy.
In turn, SANEF has undertaken not to proceed further with its application at the Western Cape High Court, where it obtained an interim order on 24 August prohibiting the committee from meeting behind closed doors with the SABC board.
SANEF and Parliament will each bear their own legal costs and both parties will be at liberty to protect their rights in respect of future matters, based on the specific merits of the case at hand.
