Cheryl Carolus joins BDFM Board

BDFM - a joint venture between Johnnic Communications and the Pearson Plc of the UK - announced Friday that Carolus would be replacing outgoing board member Richard Stuart.

When she was in London between 1998 and 2001 as High Commissioner, Carolus is reputed for creating strong relations between the South Africa and British governments and their peoples, which influenced the decision to appoint her to head SA Tourism where she also did a sterling job until she stepped down earlier this year.
Said Board Chairman Peter Joubert: "We are pleased Miss Carolus has agreed to join our board and bring her vast international experience and network to help us strengthen the BDFM brand. Her reputation precedes her and the BDFM board is honoured to have her join us."

The former teacher from the Western Cape has had an illustrious political career. In 1983 she was instrumental in the formation of the United Democratic Front, which she served as Western Cape general secretary.

In 1990 after the unbanning of political parties and the release of Nelson Mandela from prison, Carolus formed part of the ANC's negotiating team at the Groote Schuur talks and in 1991 she was elected into the ANC National Executive Committee.
It came as no surprise when President Mandela appointed her to represent South Africa in the UK in 1989. When she returned, she took over the reins at SA Tourism.

She stepped down from her tourism role a month ago to take over as Chairman of the SA Parks Board.
