SATMA launch opens for 2010 entries

The official opening of entries for the 2010 South African Traditional Music Achievement Awards (SATMA) will take place at the launch on Friday, 28 May 2010, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) at 6pm. The fifth annual awards have added two new categories to the existing ones for which members of the public and the music industry can send nominations.

The launch will also signal the final leg of the Siyabalanda campaign, which has been promoting traditional music internationally and bringing different countries and their cultures together before the World Cup.

The introduction of these new categories, Best Traditional & Cultural News Journalist (Print Media) and Best Traditional & Cultural News Journalist (Electronic Media) brings the total to 33. The category for Best Song of the Year is open to public nomination and public vote. The three categories, namely Lasting Legacy; Lifetime Achievement; and Best Selling Albumn will be selected by a SATMA Awards Panel.

All the details about the categories, nomination criteria, forms and nomination process will be available on the new website, also to be launched on 28 May on www.satmaawards.co.za.
