M&G Media to publish two additional magazines

After the successful launch of M&G Leisure in June, M&G Media Ltd, publishers of the Mail & Guardian, this week announced that it has added two more magazines to its publishing line-up. The two additional titles, M&G Sport and Go Wild, brings the total number of print titles published by the company to six which effectively doubles the number of publications in the stable.

M&G Sport will be available as a monthly in-paper magazine and will be inserted in the full 60 000 print run of the Mail & Guardian during the first week of every month. The magazine will be similar in format to M&G Leisure and the first edition is due to appear during September 2004.

Go Wild, the official publication of South African National Parks (SANParks) was awarded to the M&G Media this week following the conclusion of an intensive bidding process where M&G Media had to compete with substantially larger publishing houses for the rights to produce the magazine.

Although no official launch date has been announced, it is expected that the first edition of the publication will be available on shelf before the end of the year.

Says M&G Media's Managing Director of Publishing, Garry Rogers; "We are delighted that we are on schedule with the roll-out of our series of in-paper magazines. The response from advertisers and readers to M&G Leisure (the second volume of which is available in the current edition of the Mail & Guardian) has been overwhelmingly positive and confirms that we are accurately interpreting the market's needs We are confident that M&G Sport will prove to be no exception."

He continues, "Being successfully selected as the preferred bidder to produce Go Wild is a great honour for our company and bears testament to the great strides made by management and staff to turn M&G Media into a profitable organisation focused on producing products of the highest quality. This is underscored by the fact that providing a comprehensive overview of the company's financial well-being was an important element of the selection criteria during the bidding process."

M&G Media also confirmed that two additional in-paper magazines will be launched during the next eight months but are playing their cards close to their chest at this stage!
