SABC approves additional 1.5%

The SABC statement says that following an earlier engagement between the SABC interim Board and organised labour, where it was indicated that the board would come back with feedback regarding an additional 1.5% on top of the 8.5% which was initially offered by management, the board met with the unions on Friday and the offer from the SABC to the unions now stands at 10% across the board. “8.5% will be paid out in August 2009 back dated to 1 April 2009, and the remaining 1.5% would be paid in December 2009 and also back dated to 1 April 2009” says the broadcaster.

The statement says that the “Broadcasting, Electronic Media and Allied Workers Union (BEMAWU) and the Communications Workers Union (CWU) and the Media Workers Association of SA (MWASA) have indicated that they will consult their constituencies” and give feedback to the broadcaster's management on today, Monday 3 August and tomorrow respectively.

The statement says that the “SABC remains committed to engaging the unions and believe that ultimately a solution will be found which suits all parties”.
