    ICASA publishes licence fees regs, invites applications for broadcasting licences

    The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) recently published its final licence fee regulations, as well as inviting applications for a licence for the provision of broadcasting services.

    ICASA has published the final licence fees regulations in Government Gazette 32084, dated 1 April 2009. The purpose of the regulations is to prescribe the administrative fees payable in respect of application(s) or registration(s) for a licence, amendment, transfer or renewal of licence and the annual licence fees payable by licensees.

    The authority has further published a supplementary position paper on licence fees regulations. This clarifies some of the issues raised by interested parties who responded to the draft general licence fees regulations, in addition to the Position Paper published by ICASA on 6 March. The regulations are effective from 1 April.
