“Having Fionnuala on board is a great coup and re-affirms the significance and caliber of Indaba. Sweeney has a distinctive style that we are confident will bring candour and insightfulness to the media debate around our destination, our readiness for 2010 and our global growth ambitions,” says Moeketsi Mosola, SA Tourism CEO.
“She is a well-known media personality with impeccable journalistic credentials and her agreement to moderate the 2008 Global Media Face Off is evidence of this destination's status as an international news story and of the global media's interest in 2010 readiness and capability.”
Sweeney anchors the prime time evening news programme World News Europe on CNN International. Sweeney was the launch anchor of World News Europe, having previously launched CNN This Morning in September 1997, the network's first European breakfast news programme produced from London.
She is also the anchor of CNN International's weekly news analysis programme International Correspondents. In this capacity, Sweeney has covered such recent international news stories as the elections in Zimbabwe, the China Olympic torch controversy and Prince Harry's tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Panelists for the Global Media Face Off at Indaba 2008 include representatives from Government, MTN, SA Tourism, First National Bank (FNB), the SA Local Organising Committee (SALOC) and a local tourism establishment owner.
Indaba 2008 takes places 10 - 13 May at the International Convention Centre Durban. For more information, go to www.indaba-southafrica.co.za.
