16 D&AD 2013 In-Book and Nominations for SA

South African campaigns claimed 16 In-Book and Nominations honours at the D&AD Awards 2013 with five of them claiming Nomination honours. This puts them in the running to win a Yellow Pencil at the D&AD Awards show in June.

The campaigns in contention for Yellow Pencils, currently with Nominations are:

  • Run Jozi by Joe Public Johannesburg for Nike (Brand Experience & Environments)
  • Death Doesn't Try Very Hard - Chocolate Bar by FoxP2 for FRANK.NET, FRANK.NET (Radio Advertising over 30 seconds)
  • Distance To Danger by Net#work BBDO Johannesburg for Mercedes-Benz (Writing for Radio Advertising)
  • Mother's Favourites by TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris Johannesburg for Tiger Brands, Enterprise (Press Advertising Campaigns)
  • Selfies by Lowe Bull for Independent Newspapers, Cape Times (Press Advertising Campaigns)

Particularly successful South African agency performances came from Joe Public Johannesburg with one Nomination and an In-book, TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris Johannesburg (also with one Nomination and one In-Book from the juries) while Ogilvy Cape Town and Velocity Films secured two In-Book awards each.

Tim Lindsay, chief executive of D&AD said: "This has been a storming year for South African creative work with a crop of campaigns in contention for Yellow Pencil honours. However, what is particularly remarkable about this performance is the sheer range of agencies that have taken awards. While there are a number that have secured two awards apiece, there are a lot of names on the honours role from South Africa this year, a clear indication of the depth of the industry's talent."

  • In-Book: refers to work that will be included in the Fiftieth D&AD Annual which will be published in September 2013.
  • Nominations: refers to work that will be included in the D&AD Annual and is also being considered by the Jury for the award of a Yellow Pencil, one of the most prestigious awards for creativity anywhere in the world..
  • Yellow Pencils: will be awarded to the work that is judged to be the best in the world, selected from projects that receive a Nomination during judging. The Yellow Pencils are one of the most-recognised and coveted awards for creativity anywhere in the world. Yellow Pencil winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on 12 June 2013.
