AWSG becomes J. Walter Thompson Cape Town
The new name is seen as a vote of confidence from the holding company when many others in the industry are cutting back. Michael Madel, president and CEO of JWT Europe, Middle East and Africa, has identified the Cape Town office as an investment area for South Africa and Europe, saying, "We believe they can get to the number two or three spot globally."
Says Paul Sellars, JWT Cape Town's creative director: "Now that we are JWT, we have a greater opportunity to have our work showcased on the international stage. Not only are we expected to do great work for our clients here at home, but we will also be involved in creative projects on a global scale - like Smirnoff, Shell and Pfizer. It's an exciting chance to show the world the impressive creative work coming out of Cape Town."
