Creative Circle results for September, October 2008

The Creative Circle results for October 2008 are in, and according to chairperson Raresh Ranchod, “2008 has been a tough year, and as it draws to an end, it is evident that ‘the struggle' has crept through into the creative work. Unfortunately, this month proved to be disappointing across TV, magazine, outdoor and radio. The general consensus amongst the judges was that nothing particularly stood out.”

Continues Ranchod, “Due to the fact that there were only four entries in the press category, we decided not to judge these entries this month, but to rather take them through to next month. Experiential was certainly the strongest category, with some truly fresh ideas shining through; and the winning entries were worthy of their achievements.”

Commented September chairperson Brett Morris, “There was not much to choose from this month, in fact so little in outdoor that we agreed to push them through to next month. Slim pickings in general though and the judges were decidedly underwhelmed. Seems the best ads of the month did come through (operative words being ‘of the month'). Which is the whole point really. Whether they are Ad of the Year contenders is another story.”

  • Newspaper: “These were the best on offer. 'Nuff said.”
  • Magazine: “The best ads came through. Nice to see some great crafting on the Mini ‘gun'.”

  • Radio: “Outright winner for National Geographic Kids mag and some stronger single ideas that pulled the campaigns through in second and third. Not much competition though.”
  • TV: “A bit more to choose from in this category for a change, with some great crafting from both spots in first place.”

Morrins also thanked Vega for hosting them at the last minute. “The scones were good, if not a little expensive and the room smelled like a wet gym togbag, but otherwise a lovely afternoon. Sharp.”
