Future Wave Media announces new mobile learning division

Future Wave Media has announced the company's new mobile learning division, mFuture, which has already developed a mobile app designed to train all levels of staff and consumers across a variety of industries.

"With most South Africans accessing the internet via mobile phones, this app provides the ideal solution for training managers and HR personnel needing to ensure their staff undergo training, where the results are tracked and measurable," says MD, Kathy Gibson, adding that measurability satisfies both ROI and actual learning requirements.

Customised for the client

Content development manager Dianne Bayley, who designed the product after researching the most effective ways to ensure knowledge retention, says the app "reaches the places face-to-face training sessions usually don't.

"The mFuture app is customised to each client's specific requirements and is structured in levels. With each level passed, information is sent to us, which we collate for the client. This shows who has completed the required levels and clients are able to send incentives in between levels.

"The module information is always available to the user, so he or she can refer back to it when faced with an on-the-job need to review it."

Broader education options

Bayley says that training sessions often involve high costs in getting many people to one location and not having much control over knowledge retention. "Reduced cost and distance learning is a key part of our offering and one that is vital in almost every industry."

Each level of every module is written, designed and signed off by the client before the build begins, again saving on costs and time. "Users need only have internet access for the initial download and the app has a small footprint," says Gibson. "Information is sent automatically by mail or SMS when they next have access and the report is compiled for our client, usually on a monthly basis. We are able to build for all mobiles, from feature phones to tablets."

The division believes the app will add huge value to skills training in South Africa, especially in the areas of health and safety, HIV and AIDS awareness and prevention, medical and pharmaceutical, road safety and even school subjects.
