Getaway extends service in the Western Cape
Getaway has extended its presence in the Western Cape through its association with the newly established Visitors’ Centre at Canal Walk, Century City.
Getaway Travel, the retail travel arm of the magazine, joins several other key tenants at the shopping mall’s new Visitors’ Centre, a state-of-the-art service centre catering for domestic and international tourists.
Canal Walk is the largest retail centre in Africa and is a favourite destination for local and overseas visitors - an estimated 10 per cent of Canal Walk’s 17 million visitors in 2002 were tourists. The opening of the new Visitors’ Centre provides them with a problem-free shopping experience, which is expected to underpin strong growth in this sector.
Among the services offered at the Visitors’ Centre are a VAT refund desk; a wine desk offering wine tastings and promoting Cape wines; a medical, emergency and travel assistance support desk; an Internet café; tourism offices providing bookings for day tours in and around Cape Town as well as bookings for the national parks and packages in the Lowveld, and an inquiry desk with information on the attractions of Cape Town and the Western Cape.
Getaway Travel, which specialises in package tours to Africa and to the Indian Ocean islands, provides a comprehensive travel service to Canal Walk visitors, including flight, accommodation and tour bookings, as well as travel accessories and books.
The Visitors’ Centre at Canal Walk is to be officially opened at the end of January.
