South African global superstar and two-time Grammy Award winner Tyla is bringing her A*Pop era home with a special takeover at Gold Reef City on 16 August 2026, in partnership with South African Tourism and powered by Absa.

The event will celebrate Tyla's global success while reconnecting the Johannesburg-born artist with the South African fans who have supported her journey from local breakout star to international music powerhouse.
As part of the partnership, South African Tourism will provide transport for high school tourism students from across Gauteng, giving young people the opportunity to attend the event and experience a major celebration of South African music and culture.
The takeover follows the release of Tyla's sophomore album, A*POP. The 14-track album blends her signature "Popiano" sound with pop, R&B, house and South African musical influences, featuring collaborations with artists including MaWhoo, Babalwa M, Liquideep and Zara Larsson.
“Tyla has always been authentic in her work. A daughter of the African soil and an advocate for South Africa,” says Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille.
For Tyla, the homecoming is an opportunity to reconnect with her roots and fans.
“Whenever I’m home, I feel like myself again. I love being surrounded by my people and my fans - it reminds me where I come from,” she says.
The A*Pop Takeover will also include a fan appreciation element, with Tyla inviting her Tygers to create TikTok videos using songs from A*Pop for a chance to win tickets to the Gold Reef City event.
The partnership brings together music, tourism, youth and brand engagement, using Tyla's global platform to showcase South African talent and create a homecoming celebration in the city where her journey began.
How can fans attend Tyla’s Gold Reef City takeover?
Tyla is giving away 1,000 tickets to the event. All fans need to do to enter and secure a free ticket is create a TikTok video using a song from A*Pop, taking her official account and use the following hashtag: #APOPGOLDREEFCITY.
The event runs from 9am to 5pm, giving fans a full day of A*Pop energy at one of Tyla’s favourite childhood hangouts!
