Another one bites the dust So yet another SABC board member has resigned... This time it's Magatho Mello. Or wait, it seems he resigned earlier in August 2010 but this time it's official. According to SOS (Support Public Broadcasting), apparently Mello intends to table his reasons in Parliament. And don't forget all the hooha last week between the SABC board, MK Vets, ANCYL, DA and SABC. Truth really is stranger than fiction - who could ever script this?Meanwhile, since the beginning of September, satirical news site Hayibo.com has closed down, The New Age has soft-launched its online news site, IOL has revamped its site yesterday (but after being down for most of today, thanks to a technical fault, has had to revert back to the old site), Super 5 Media has had a reprieve, and Cape Town TV may be getting its wings clipped, thanks to ICASA. Then, there's been the usual rash of announcements of editors jumping from 'zine to 'zine. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. On the media freedom front, M&G editor Nic Dawes addressed the issue of freedom of expression and Constitutional rights in his keynote speech at the newspaper's literary festival end of last week. There was also a meeting of African press freedom advocates in Kenya last week in which further support for the Declaration of Table Mountain - which calls on African states to repeal insult and criminal defamation laws and to promote the highest standards of press freedom - was voiced. A luta continua! Simone Puterman (@SimoneBiz) Managing editor Please send all marketing and media news to marketingnews@bizcommunity.com and opinion pieces to contributors@bizcommunity.com.
