Newspapers uniteFifty-six newspapers, a number of them South African, have taken the unprecedented step of speaking with one voice - albeit in 20 languages and from 45 countries - and issued the same editorial calling on world leaders, meeting in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, to set aside their differences and decide on an effective plan of action to combat global warming. As the editorial states: “...humanity faces a profound emergency” and so far, the world's leaders' response to the growing crisis has been anything but impressive. On a more positive note, last year, the International Marketing Council of South Africa hosted a tour of American bloggers as part of a marketing and PR campaign. This week, 24.com's Matthew Buckland is the South African representative of Travelling Geeks in Paris, France. “The goal of the tour is to collaborate with innovators and influencers, and then share that knowledge and insight to a collective global audience through blogging, video, social media tools, traditional media and meetups,” explains Buckland in his blog. Follow the travelling geeks on Twitter at #tg09, on their Facebook fan page, on Flickr and the web. Last but not least, congratulations go to TimesLIVE for reaching one million unique browsers in November 2009 and News24 for cracking 1.5 million unique browsers, according to Nielsen Netratings, and to South Africa for Friday night's 2010 FIFA World Cup Final Draw in the Mother City, which appears to have gone off like, well, the mother of all parties. Bring on 2010! Simone Puterman & Rod Baker PS In this week's Ornico Ad Showcase, we feature TV ads for Coca-Cola, Debonairs, Toyota, Kalahari.net and Windhoek Lager, and radio ads for Maq, Motorola, MTN, Nando's and Halls. Please send all marketing and media news to marketingnews@bizcommunity.com and opinion pieces to contributors@bizcommunity.com. Zimfest Cape Town set for Jan 2010 MUSIC [Sindy Peters] Overtone, organisers of Zimfest Cape Town announced in early November that Zimfest, originally planned for 19 - 21 November 2009 at the De Heuvel Olive and Wine Estate in Tulbagh, had to be postponed due to unpredictable weather conditions. According to Magdalena Zukowski, general manager of Overtone SA, Zimfest is definitely still on for early January 2010, but a set date is still to be confirmed. “I've never met a dog that wouldn't make a better cat” THEATRE [Thomas Marmalade] The Owner of the house where I live in Rondebosch often says this. Who am I are to argue?
Great excitement when Owner and Owner's Daughter said there was a seat for me at Lord (nogaal!) Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats at the Artscape this last weekend. Actually, also some trepidation as (strictly between you and me) I'm a bit of home body and don't go out much (at least off the property, I'm out around the garden most summer nights). Fact is, last time I went out was to the vet, and I would like to pass over that pretty quickly, thank you. Owner says I cried a lot, I say that's a calumny. Simo gets in to the synergy of things MUSIC [Simo Adams] Wow! What a way to get introduced to the BizLounge team - a road and camping trip to Synergy Live in Franschhoek - talk about getting thrust into the deep end. But I'm a professional partier and held my own up fairly well, if I do say so myself, maintaining much longer than most of my colleagues. And all the while trying to brave giant hooks on the dance floor seemingly specially designed to catch innocent Simos (ok, maybe not so innocent), countless kidnapping attempts, wobbly bare bottoms and some overly amorous ladies. Albert Frost wins Doritos Be Heard Competition MUSIC South African guitarist, Albert Frost, has won the South African leg of the Doritos Be Heard competition. Frost wins the grand prize of R200 000. Synergy, can I get a hell yeah! MUSIC [Sindy Peters] Synergy, hell yeah! You heard of famous last words, but these were famous first words for Simo Adams - newest member of the BizLounge team. He had a rocking time and so did we. Synergy made a great comeback this year after leaving fans high...and dry for seven years straight. There are plenty of festivals to trek off to all year round in the Cape Town region, and Synergy Live is one of the hottest. BizLounge and Simo raffle it up at Synergy Live MUSIC [Sindy Peters] Bizcommunity.com's BizLounge entertainment portal hosted a raffle at the relaunched Synergy Live Music Festival at the Boschendal Wine Estate in Franschhoek, Cape Town. After braving the heat-wave togged in terrific T's and armed with, Simo, sweets, stickers and Apple Sours we arrived back in Cape Town with an ample total to hand over to the good folk of Nazareth House.

"The business that considers itself immune to the necessity for advertising sooner or later finds itself immune to business." - Derby Brown "Success is simple. Do what's right, the right way, at the right time." - Arnold H. Glasow "A deadline is negative inspiration. Still, it's better than no inspiration at all." - Rita Mae Brown "In the modern world of business, it is useless to be a creative original thinker unless you can also sell what you create. Management cannot be expected to recognize a good idea unless it is presented to them by a good salesman." - David M. Ogilvy More...  Submit a Quote Print - Print any item in this newsletter. | The following companies have opened press offices on Bizcommunity.com!Big Wednesday is the day you decide to distinguish yourself from everybody else or fade into the crowd. As an agency we aim to distinguish, most importantly our client's brands, but ourselves as well. There are a lot of ways to go about this. Some are tried and tested while others are new and have never been seen before. We think it's smart to consider them all. By definition, we're a through-the-line agency but we'd rather not be. That makes us sounds like everybody else and we're not so into that. Click here to visit Big Wednesday's press office. Huge Media is a member of Huge Group Limited, a JSE listed company.
