I'm having many conversations about social networking and social media sites currently. Not since Google revolutionised search online has there been so much chatter about Internet innovation. Resistance to participating and joining in social networking online often comes from those who groan that they don't have a fragment of time left to spend online, drowning in email as most of us are. That's why I'm looking forward to Dion Chang's new trends watch venture, Flux Trend Review, this week. The two-day business and consumer focused event 7 – 8 September in Johannesburg, www.fluxtrends.co.za, which Bizcommunity.com is online media partner to, will address time famine, quality of life in business, and upcoming trends. Explains Chang: “The conference will allow delegates to hit the pause button and to take stock of where we are, and where we're going. As we find ourselves bombarded with information 24 hours a day, we have less time to absorb, less time to reflect and as a result, less time to make measured or informed decisions.” On a warm note, Summer didn't waste any time in Jozi this weekend, hijacking Spring Day with a heatwave. No doubt Winter will return briefly just to make a point, but we're enjoying the sunshine in the meantime!

Happy Spring! Louise Marsland, editor@bizcommunity.com. Marketing news: marketingnews@bizcommunity.com. Responses to this column welcomed on our blog.

    Ad industry is about relationships
[Paul Williams] The glory days of the advertising industry, when ad execs would drive around in fancy cars and spend their days having leisurely drinks and lunches with clients, are long gone and the ad industry, like the PR industry, has largely shaken-off its reputation of being a party industry. But, while “the good old days” are certainly part of a bygone era, the emphasis on relationship-building and having a bit of fun should not be lost in the scuffle to “keep it professional”.
