Show profile Hide profileI am currently employed by Bombardier Transportation in South-Africa on the Gautrain Project in the capacity of Paralegal / Commercial, Contracts and Legal Co-Ordinator as well as Personal Assistant to the Head of Commercial and Contracts.
During my period of employment, I have worked in accordance with the principles, policies, procedures and ethos of Bombardier International. I am familiar with the mission and vision of the company and the work ethic of the Management and Employees.
The Construction Phase of the Gautrain Project where I have been actively involved since 2009 has sadly come to an end and I am currently assisting with the closing out of the old Entity and the implementation of the Commercial, Contracts and Legal departments of the new Entity which will Maintain the Gautrain for the next 15 years.
My exposure in Bombardier thus far was broadly with Corporate Governance (all 6 BT's South Africa entities), Claims, Disputes, Bids, Research & Investigations, Sub-Contract, Change Control Administration & Database, Contract Variations Administration, Customs Imports & Exports, Guarantees/Bonds, Audit Co-Ordination, Project Insurance, Correspondence and Document Control, Filing Solutions, Creating and maintaining various Registers and Reports, Managing an Assistant, Co-Ordination of the Legal/Commercial and Contract Administration Teams, some HR Administration within the Team, continuously having an overview on the matters at hand on a daily basis as well as support with the Gautrain Project Closure.
My role is to provide day to day support to the Commercial, Contracts and Legal Departments in achieving the Business Unit's objective. The duties are focused around Commercial issues, Contracts Management and Legal issues of a diverse nature.
I run a highly efficient office with effective administration systems / processes, which include general Paralegal and Administration duties, managing diaries / schedules to plan day-to-day activities, as well as meetings to affect the most appropriate use of time, all aspects of travel arrangements, receiving and handling international and local visitors professionally.
Finally, I've been the official support for BOTH the Heads of Commercial and Contracts that has worked on this Project, one of which was a Barrister from the UK and the other a Commercial/Contracts Expert from France. I have been privileged enough to have been mentored by both of them and have subsequently been exposed to a wealth of knowledge, wisdom and insight as well as very confidential issues which I needed to, in some instances, co-ordinate and administrate and deal with.
I am extremely impressed with Bombardier as a company and the Management Team which I have worked so closely with and would love to continue this mentorship as it has proven to be mutually beneficial, but unfortunately the only real opportunities within this company are outside of South Africa.
In order to realise my ambition to further my career, grow and reach my full potential, I feel the time has come for me to take the next step and spread my wings.
