Shoprite expects higher earnings

South African retailer Shoprite Holdings said on Tuesday that it expects both earnings per share and headline earnings per share for the six months ended December 2008 to be between 35% to 45% higher than those of the prior comparative period. It said the current state of the economy should be considered when projecting the results of the group for the full year. Its results are expected to be released on or about 18 February.
