Morocco begins massive port project
TANGIERS: Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Wednesday, 17 June 2009, attended a ceremony to mark the start of a project to create one of the biggest ports in Africa and the Mediterranean. The €825-million Tangier Med 2 port, in the north of the country, has financial support from a host of countries, including France and Italy. The country's economy minister, Salaheddine Mezouar, said the first phase of the project should be finished by 2014 and will be around the size of 80 football pitches.
