For the first time in its five-year history, Superbalist In the City expanded into a weekend festival across Joburg's downtown venues and green spaces for three separate events; #SxITC2016 Liftoff Party, the Virgin Mobile Braam Beach Party and the Superbalist In The City Concert.

The 2016 Wawela Music Awards (WMAs) winners were announced by the Southern African Music Rights Organisation NPC (SAMRO) on 7 October. The awards celebrate music composers and songwriters.
