Launch of location-based services platform in SA
MapIT is hosting a free developers' day in Johannesburg on 24 February 2012 at 9am to launch its Location Based Services (LBS) platform for South African developers.
LBS allow developers the opportunity to create applications that give customers instant access to various services and information based on their location. For example, informing customers where the nearest ATM cash machine is, or the whereabouts of a friend, or when the next bus will be arriving, or what shops within 2 km are offering the iPad 3.
For LBS to work, it needs to have specialised local information and this is where the company is offering developers an opportunity to tap into its LBS platform, so as to include it into local applications.
Users of the platform will receive local support from the support team, quality mapping data, full control of content and an online free DevZone portal for 24/7 support. Most importantly, users will have free access to the software during the development phase of their application.
