The hour-long, season 1 Documentary, 'A Journey to Democracy', will be nominated in various categories and compete in the awards ceremony on the final evening of East Africa's longest running film festival. It takes a journey with Nelson Mandela and many of the most influential architects of democracy, as they tell of their experiences, their highs and lows, and reaching the landmark first democratic elections held on 27 April 1994.
Adrian Steirn, co-creator, photographer and director of 21 ICONS South Africa, says, "It's an honour to be recognised by the Zanzibar International Film Festival for this body of work. We look forward to screening the film to a global audience and the opportunity to introduce 21 ICONS to Africa and the rest of the world as well as to inspire beyond our nation's borders. We have dedicated the past six years to seeing our vision unfold and the project has been a labour of love for a team of committed professionals."
Each year ZIFF accepts entries from around the world and exhibits more than 100 films made in Africa, Middle East, Europe, Latin America, USA and Asia. It is the largest multi-disciplinary art and cultural festival in Africa dedicated to the exhibition of films, music and panorama with global credibility and instant Pan-African recognition. The festival features international film and video screenings along with music and performances, main stage events, exhibitions, workshops and seminars.
