Soweto Festival Expo 2011 relocates to Joburg Expo Centre
In a joint statement released recently, Adele Lucas Promotions (ALP) MD, Toby Chance, and Greater Soweto Business Forum chairman, Churchill Mrasi said the move was a positive step made necessary by the growth of the event in recent years.
"We have seen considerable growth over the past three years and are grateful to the University of Johannesburg for accommodating us during that time. With the number of SMMEs and other exhibitors steadily increasing, we found that UJ did not have sufficient space for our needs. We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with the management of Expo Centre, which will become our home for at least the next three years," the statement continued.
The new venue allows the Soweto Festival Expo to vastly expand the range of activities on offer, including sports, more entertainment and a bigger and more varied exhibition.
"The Johannesburg Expo Centre is delighted to be the new home of the expo," added Craig Newman, CEO of Expo Centre. "The refurbishment of the Expo Centre and the precinct has proved to be a winning formula, as we continue to experience an increase in the quantity and quality of visitors making use of our facilities. We look forward festival and are very excited about working with the organisers to grow the show in the years to come."
