New editor for Daily Dispatch
Avusa Media has appointed political journalist and editor Mpumelelo Mkhabela as the new editor of the Daily Dispatch and the Saturday Dispatch, effective January 2011. This appointment has been made to grow its news hub in the Eastern Cape and to set the agenda for news from this region.
Mkhabela was previously deputy editor of The Sunday Independent and before that, the parliamentary bureau chief of the Sunday Times.
"His wealth of experience will not only help us to grow the paper to a wider market beyond East London, it will also raise the bar of investigative journalism in the area," says Avusa Media editor-in-chief Mondli Makhanya. "The Eastern Cape is an important region in South Africa and expect relevant and groundbreaking news, which can be fed to the other titles including the Sunday Times.
