Sanlam Awards for Community Press 2009 - clarification
There appears to be a lack of clarity regarding what publications can enter the Newspaper of the Year category. Consequently, Sanlam issued the following statement yesterday, Wednesday, 10 June 2009.
There are three categories, namely:
1. Sanlam/Cronwright (circulation of 15 000 plus)
2. Sanlam/Hultzer (circulation of below 15 000)
3. Sanlam Award (only for smaller, independent town/rural papers not owned by any of the large media groups)
Any newspaper from any newspaper group can enter the Cronwright and/or Hultzer categories. Bigger newspapers, mostly free, fall under Cronwright. But several paid newspapers with a circulation of over 15 000 must enter the Cronwright category. The Hultzer Trophy is for newspapers with a circulation of below 15 000 - for all newspaper groups.
The Sanlam Award for smaller newspapers is only for the smaller town/rural papers that do not belong to any of the big newspaper groups.
