The Citizen revs up for new supplement

Aimed at motorcycling enthusiasts, The Citizen new motorcycling supplement CitiBike launches tomorrow, Tuesday, 17 April 2007. The insert will appear in the newspaper every Tuesday under the editorship of George Portman.

A response to growing interest in motorcycling, CitiBike is aimed at LSM 6 and above. The objective of the dedicated motorcycling periodical is to serve as a strong pull for the paper and attract a lucrative niche market by providing a hub of information about new bikes, quads, gear, and racing events.

“The biking community is a considerably sized market,” says The Citizen’s publisher Greg Stewart. “With the old stigma attached to biking largely gone and our gridlocked roads pushing people to seek alternative options, the launch of CitiBike is a natural progression for the paper.”

Adds Portman, “Motorcycling, against all pre-conceived ideas, has now come of age. The proliferation of monthly magazines, the abundance of retail outlets and the increased registrations all bear testimony to this.”

Portman has been involved in motorcycles and motorcycle racing for almost 40 years. He also launched SuperBike SA magazine seven years ago.

With television and print media coverage, the new biking insert aims to gain top of mind awareness in the minds of motorcycling enthusiasts - CitiBike is the main series sponsor for the South African National SuperBike 600cc and 1200cc Championships, part of the Wesbank Super Series.

Advertising will be handled by a dedicated CitiBike salesperson for and The Citizen’s main sales force.
