Deadline looms for Mondi newspaper awards

The final countdown until Friday, 9 February 2007, has begun. Newspaper journalists, feature writers, photographers, graphic artists and layout artists are reminded to enter their best work in the sixth annual Mondi Shanduka Newspaper Awards.

All nominations for the Lifetime Achiever Award, in the form of a written letter of motivation, are also required by this date.

If the judging panel feels that you have hit the target of excellence, you will be in line to win R10 000 cash, a coveted Mondi Shanduka Golden Nib and a framed certificate.

This year’s panel comprises convenor Guy Berger, head of media studies and journalism at Rhodes University; Sarah Crowe, former TV news editor; John Dludlu, former editor of Sowetan; Ebbe Dommisse, former editor of Die Burger; Ivan Fynn, former editor of Cape Argus; Alf Kumalo, veteran award-winning photojournalist; Ruda Landman, television journalist and co-anchor of Carte Blanche; Irwin Manoim, founding editor of Mail and Guardian; Kaizer Nyatsumba, former editor of The Daily News; Phil Mtimkulu, founding editor of The Voice; Caroline Southey, former editor of Financial Mail; and Sophie Tema, award-winning journalist.

The awards evening will take place at the Sandton Hilton Hotel on Wednesday, April 25, 2007.
