From 3000 to 30 000 readers in 18 months

In just 18 months, newspaper Wine Tourism News has gone from a readership of 3000 to 30 000. "We are dedicated to promoting a thriving and responsible wine culture in South Africa," says publisher Monika Elias of The World's Favourite Publications, "and it is clear from our research that people are interested in learning about wine in a fun and non-threatening way; hence the success of the newspaper."

To celebrate this readership growth and to mark the newspaper's entry into the Johannesburg distribution market, the first Johannesburg consumer 'blind tasting' panel was held recently at 10 Bompas Road Restaurant, hosted by wine master Karen Green. These 'blind tasting' evenings, which are also held in Cape Town, will now occur on a monthly basis.

Wine Tourism News is a monthly newspaper focusing on the wine lifestyle of South Africa with regular columns from the wine routes, wine writers and journalists. The consumer tasting panel, restaurant reviews, day trip recommendations, events and tasting calendars make it a useful resource on the Cape Winelands and the products originating from this region. The newspaper is freely available at a variety of outlets in the Cape and Gauteng or one can subscribe on a monthly basis for delivery to one's door.

With stands at Winex and the Soweto Wine Festival in September 2006, the newspaper hopes to grow its readership even further.
