New eatery opens near Alex

There is a new place in Lombardy East aimed at catering for those who want to eat traditional food and wash it down with a cold one.
New eatery opens near Alex

There is not a full menu at the moment but Marcus Garvey owner Mbongeni Zondi says his establishment will soon run a full menu that will see patrons enjoy traditional food for around R25 a plate.

“People here are able to enjoy a full meal for as little as R25, but we aim to attract the black middle class who want to enjoy eating out for less and yet still be in the company of discerning patrons,” he said.

Zondi opened the restaurant this month after taking over from the previous owners and he intends to make it a top eatery, pub and a conference centre to cater for corporate launches and conferences.

The eatery has ample parking space with a huge garden. The restaurant has two sections where diners can relax and have food and drinks.

“We will soon have a braai area where people can enjoy themselves on a Sunday afternoon,” Zondi said.

“I know that in nearby Alexandra there are eateries, but this is different as the only qualification we require from patrons is that they fit the profile of being middle class and are looking for an alternative space away from the hustle and bustle of town and the township,” he said.

The area, however, is surrounded by tall grass, which could be a security risk.

“We will soon clear this grass, making sure that patrons feel safe here. We also have a security plan in place,” Zondi said.
