Cape Town company is world's top city tour operator

Innovation, customer service, branding and the use of technology were high on the agenda for the delegates who attended this year's Annual International City Sightseeing Conference and Awards ceremony that took place in Portugal from 30 May to 2 June 2009 - and a Cape Town operator beat the world's best.

Claus Tworeck, founder and CEO of City Sightseeing Cape Town, was there to represent his company and the Mother City and returned with the highest accolade amongst his peer tour operators from over 86 global cities. It is official: City Sightseeing Cape Town is ‘International City Sightseeing Operator of the Year'.

Tworeck said, “It's especially satisfying knowing that we beat top international open top bus operators from cities like New York, Paris and London, as South Africa and Cape Town gear up to welcome the world for the Confederations Cup and 2010 Soccer World Cup amongst many other high-profile events that our country is hosting. We have worked hard to achieve the high-quality standards we set; we've used technology to streamline the information and booking processes, maintained the buses in top condition and invested in marketing and communication in order to achieve high levels of brand awareness and a good overall brand experience.

“Our strategy for ‘going green' by investing in fuel-efficient state-of-the-art buses and using recycled paper for all our brochures and other printed communications are just two examples of why we were the first South African bus company to receive accreditation from the Heritage Environmental agency. We were also lauded by the International City Sightseeing panel; highlighting our commitment to a lower carbon footprint and a more sustainable natural environment for Cape Town,” says Tworeck.
