More South African good news

FNB's latest radio, television and print campaign highlighting the positive apects of South African-ness saw many industry players participating on a pro bono or almost pro bono basis.

Following on from the success of the books, "South Africa - The Good News" and "South Africa - More Good News", published by Brett Bowes and Steuart Pennington, a campaign of ten thirty-second television commercials has recently been flighted. The books foster a sense of optimism by stating statistics that illustrate how far we have come since 1994. As one of the sponsors of "South Africa - More Good News", First National Bank, decided to run an advertising campaign that included radio, television and print.

Many industry players became involved on a pro bono or almost pro bono basis; TOM Pictures, Digital Film, ZSE and The Video Lab. On the SASANI side both ZSE and The Video Lab were involved.

ZSE sponsored an Avid and machines for two full days and The Video Lab provided edit time, full audio mixes for both Radio and TV and then made up station material. Editor Grant Aerts and sound engineer Mark Langman not only contributed their time but creative input. Grant conformed the ten commercials as well as doing colour correction and title work. Mark did final mixes for all ten TV commercials and ten Radio spots. Craig Morton coordinated the post production at both the ZSE and The Video Lab.

"From the moment Brett Bowes spoke to me about the project I was interested in helping. We often only pay lip service to all the worthwhile initiatives happening around us. The Video Lab is becoming increasingly involved in social responsibility projects, contributing to not only the above campaign but also helping to get an Arrive Alive as well as a SANBS commercial to cinema over the December period," says Craig Morton.
