New YouTube series to focus on people living with disabilities
Tujay evokes discussions on different topics concerning the disability sector. One of these discussions is with Erik Holm a South African actor and newsreader best known for his recurring role as Rian Malherbe in the kykNET soap opera Binnelanders. Erik Holms became disabled as a result of a freak accident (he dived into a man-made dam and broke his spine). “To me what is important is to be honoured for your skills, your work and not merely for your existence,” said Holms during an interview with TuJay, “I believe we are slowly moving toward it, it is a call to action to disabled people to put themselves out there, ” said Holms.
Tujay was diagnosed with muscular dystrophies (MD) at the age of two and was said to only live until the age of four by his doctors at the time. He is now a 30-year-old vibrant rap artist who says his mission in life is to give a voice to those who are ignored. “Hosting the series has given me a platform to support other persons with disabilities, educate on the different forms of disabilities and further inspire others to keep doing what they love most,” said TuJay.
The series is running weekly, every Friday, ahead of the annual Casual Day campaign, which will be celebrated on Friday, 2 September to raise funds for persons with disabilities. Donate R10 to get your Casual Day sticker and sport your casual wear on 2 September in support of the cause. Donations can be made at Edcon stores (Edgars, Red Sqaure, Edgars Active, Jet, Jet Mart, Boardmans CNA, Legit) Shoprite/Checkers, Game, Dion Wired or by visiting Casual Day to find a participating NGO near you.
