Call to revive outdoor advertising association

Following OHMSA's non-attendance at the Advertising Media Association of South Africa (AMASA) monthly meeting, 3 May 2006, a number of key outdoor media owners are realising the need to form a much-needed outdoor advertising association which focuses on developing the outdoor advertising industry in South Africa, new research, creative methods and considers all players who are members, no matter their size.

The body intends to revive the Outdoor Advertising Association of South Africa (OAASA), which has been in existence for the past century. The move is spear-headed by Willem Krog at Ad Outpost, who was chairman of the body at its last meeting in 2002.

Says Krog, "We are committed to the success of outdoor advertising in South Africa and it is with this in mind that we invite all interested parties to attend our first meeting on 21 June 2006. The purpose of the meeting is to draft a new, democratic, constitution for OAASA which will encompass the interests and needs of all media owners in the sector without bias."
