SABC: Licence payers are fed up

NEWSWATCH: Inkatha Freedom Party MP, Liezl van der Merwe, has warned that if the SABC does not clean up its act, it could well face a revolt from licence-payers, reports news24, which also reports on a stream of tributes following the death of well-known journalist Mandy Rossouw. And the mystery around that website deepens, reports M&G.
SABC: Licence payers are fed up

For more:

  • SABC warned of licence-payer revolt... Every year, we pay our TV licences and are urged to do so because, in the words of the SABC, "it's the right thing to do".

The problem is, of course, that the board and management at the SABC have been doing anything but the "right thing", so it's no wonder that we who are forced to pay for a service that though many watch, many others neither watch, want or need, are becoming increasingly browned off with the antics of the afore-mentioned.

If those who "manage" (we use the term in its loosest sense) the SABC do not get their act together, as the IFP is reported by news24 to have said, "South Africans will no longer believe that it is still 'the right thing to do' to pay for TV licences".

Van der Merwe said in a statement, reports news24, "South Africans deserve a stable SABC they can be proud of. Not an SABC that is routinely labelled a national embarrassment, and a sinking ship stranded in a sea of incompetence."

Dead right... But is anyone at the SABC listening?

  • news24: Stream of Twitter tributes for Rossouw... Someone so young has left such a void, and that is reflected in the stream of local and international tributes on Twitter, and condolences from government figures.

  • Mail & Guardian: Mystery surrounding Free State website deepens... The Free State's premier, Ace Magashule, has been accused of feeding funds to the firm that built the province's controversial R40m website.

If the accusations prove to be true, it's yet another example of taxpayers' monies being used by the corrupt, for the corrupt.
