Subtitles field trial for MultiChoice

Currently a small group of deaf or hard of hearing people nominated by DeafSA are testing subtitling software on the DStv personal video recorder. They form part of a field trial before final review of subtitling software is released to the broader customer base.

MultiChoice will release software for subtitling functionalities during October 2007. Subtitling is already available on some of the popular channels such as M-Net Movies I and M-Net Movies II.

Feedback to the MulitChoice technical team is via SMS. The MultiChoice call centre is also currently working on a SMS system whereby the deaf or hard of hearing customer may contact the call centre and receive support from the staff who are capable of understanding their concerns, as well as being able to help them in a fast and efficient manner, maintaining the company's credo of “delightful resolution”

Says Jackie Rakita GM: corporate affairs, “Our interactions with the deaf and hard of hearing community imparted valuable information as well as a greater understanding of the daily hurdles that they face. Our team thrives on challenges and innovative delivery of our content and we are pleased to be part of the solution to enhance the viewing of the deaf community.”
