Table Mountain Cableway implements operational changes with strike under way

Having been unable to reach a settlement on annual salary increases, Table Mountain Aerial Cableway's (TMACC) staff who are members affiliated to the South African Commercial Catering Workers Union (SACCAWU) are on strike from today (28 September 2016). SACCAWU is asking for a 15% increase and TMACC is offering 9%.

Our initial offer to the union was a tiered offer of between 7% and 10% favouring lower earners. We have indicated our willingness to negotiate on the tiered approach but this has been rejected. We will continue to explore ways to resolve this impasse and do everything in our power to contain any tensions that may arise out of this wage dispute.

While we are supportive of our staff’s rights we are also mindful of how this action may impact visitors. Therefore we have taken a strategic decision to implement some operational changes, to limit the impact on our visitors.

• Cableway operations will continue throughout the period of industrial action, albeit with a limited number of staff, which will restrict services.

• Operational hours will be reduced and visitors impacted by this will be able to obtain a refund in line with standard terms and conditions. Please check our website for frequency of trips during this period.

• The following outlets will be operational during this period: Lower Station – Kiosk and the Exit Shop; Top Station – Table Mountain Café and the Shop at the Top. The Top Station Kiosk, Visitors Centre and Wi-Fi Lounge will be closed during this period.

• We encourage visitors to buy tickets online from www.tablemountain.net.

Visitors can check for updates on the website or contact Cableway Reception on (021) 424 0015. There will also be news updates on
Facebook and Twitter.
