Sikwane leaves Home for home

Kaya FM talk-show host Thabiso Sikwane has quit her evening show, Home, to focus on family and business interests. Home is aired between 7pm and 9pm on weekdays. Mapaseka Mokwele, a television news presenter and businesswoman is the new host for the show.

Sikwane joined the station in September 2009 and her show has grown while changing many people's lives. However, she said her listeners should not despair since she won't be lost to the radio broadcasting industry for good.

Kaya FM station manager Greg Maloka said: "Thabiso has brought such a positive energy to the station and her show has been a huge success with our listeners.

"Mapaseka, like Thabiso, fits in perfectly with the Kaya FM culture. We know she's going to do a great job."

Mokwele said: "I am excited and looking forward to hosting the show. I won't change the format because I feel Thabiso has done a great job.

"I have been a follower of the show but I never thought I would one day host it."

Sikwane said she might have left the slot but she is focusing on "home" off-air.

"My firstborn is taking part in sport and he needs my support. I loved the show but it really denied me opportunities to enjoy dinner with my family. Most importantly, I want to see my husband when he comes back from work."

She said deciding to leave the show was the most difficult thing she had to do and tonight's show will be very emotional for her.

"I know the show was helping a lot of people. That is why I will continue hosting seminars in Pretoria and elsewhere in Gauteng as well as online seminars from February next year."

Sikwane plans to also conduct more seminars with experts in various fields covering topics such as getting out of debt, dealing with a drug addict, coping with loss, infertility, erectile dysfunction and sexual health.
