According to Tim Zunckel, OFM's Programme Manager, the station annually reviews its presenter line-up. “We do this to continue providing unique, interesting and entertaining programming to our listeners. We are constantly looking at exciting and innovative ideas for our audience and with our listeners embracing new technologies and interacting with us on so many new platforms; the need to remain relevant is a major challenge.”
He added that understanding these challenges, Thabethe and the team from The Breakfast Club, will bring a new entertainment offering to its listeners. “Tim was the natural choice in replacing Pieter and Christie, who will now both host their own weekday shows. He is not only passionate about the region, but has the ability to provoke thought and laughter in the same sentence. His fresh approach to early mornings on OFM during the Breakfast Club will be the perfect start to every day!”
When asked how it feels to present the breakfast show on OFM, Tim says, “It's an honour that is not just a title, but it comes with some responsibility. I'm following in the footsteps of the Manie Kitching, the Pieter du Bois', the Christie Hansens' and Pieter Möllers'. It feels a bit like standing in the shadow of these goliaths, but the plans going forward are truly exciting and I'm striving to offer something different. I would like to honour the people before me by continuing the legacy they left behind while still fulfilling the needs of our listeners.”
Tim perceives his team - Andre Kunz, Leanne Nel and Liezl Liebenberg, as possibly the best collection of girls and guys to present a breakfast show. “The team knows each other, trusts each other and has a lot of fun together. We thrive on witty chic one-liners and the odd bit of healthy rivalry.” The Breakfast Club will be serving something new weekdays from 6am to 9am.
OFM confirmed that the contracts with presenters Paul Freathy, Kobus Kolver and traffic presenter, Meloni Munro were not renewed. This meant minor reshuffling to the rest of the line up for 2010.
The following shifts will be effective from Monday, 12 April:
