SIR launches South Africa's first satellite based radio station

The Sports Guild, a premium Internet sport portal has announced the launch of Sports Information Radio (SIR), the first South Africa-based satellite radio station. Providing commercial-free music and sports programming to homes across the country, SIR will broadcast from 11 October this year.

"SIR will broadcast through the DSTV Audio bouquet, on single as well as dual-view decoders and SABC VIVID decoders, enabling listeners to enjoy a match or sporting event whilst keeping up-to-date and informed of the game rules and regulations while watching the match," says station founder Alan Munro. "The station is positioned as a vehicle to assist sports persons acquire sponsorships and also promoting sportsmanship from participant's and spectator's through to achieving greater involvement across the board - on and off the field."

As part of a wide range of advertising, marketing and promotional partnership between the companies, The Sports Guild will provide sports programming to SIR and will create marketing and promotion programs. This will strengthen SIRs' position as the premier satellite radio sports broadcaster. SIR will broadcast soccer, rugby, athletics, football and other events and plan to be the Official Satellite Radio Partner of major sporting associations in SA.

Munro says, "We are excited to launch SIR, satellite sports radio and to celebrate we plan to launch the radio station with two record attempts. The first is to interview as many sports personalities from as many sports disciplines as possible in 120 hours. The second is to simultaneously run a sports quiz show."
