Podcasts for Cape radio stations

94.5 Kfm and 567 CapeTalk recently began introducing podcasts on their websites as part of Primedia Broadcasting's plans to ensure more interactivity with listeners and more value with advertisers, according to Primedia Broadcasting COO Ryan Till

“Digital platforms present a great way for our listeners to interact with us when they want to. And particularly with Whackhead prank calls – if you missed him on your way to work, you can get your daily fix at your desk” he says.

“We are in the process of programming more downloadable content and increased offerings for our listeners, which we plan to roll out over the next few months.”

Each day, the stations now highlight the best and most popular content and make it available to download – ensuring that listeners never miss out on their favourite on-air moments. 94.5 Kfm listeners can download breakfast show host Nic Marais' chat to Darren Simpson (aka Whackhead) every morning at 7.50am. The prankster's top five pranks are also listed for listeners who missed it or want to enjoy it all over again. Listeners can simply visit and click on the “listen on demand” section.”

Every morning at 6.45am, breakfast show host Aden Thomas crosses live to Harley Carnes, a CBS Radio News anchor and correspondent, based in New York. Then at 7.45am he speaks to Adam Gilchrist to get his perspective on the news in the United Kingdom. The reports and other content are available on – listeners must on “audio highlights and podcasts.”

Podcasting is best described as “radio on demand”. Listeners (or podcatchers) can subscribe to the programmes of their choice using a podcasting programme such as iTunes. This programme then automatically checks for a new podcast and if one is available, it downloads it immediately. The content will then be ready to play on any computer or MP3 player. A special help page detailing the download process is available on both stations' websites.
