Battle of the DJs

Motorola and 5FM drive-time DJs Gareth Cliff and DJ Fresh have joined forces to bring music-obsessed South Africans an interactive on-air promotion, MOTOPlay. This head-to-head challenge is a 'battle of the hits' as Cliff and Fresh rival each other for their choice of the latest and greatest music hit of the week. Listeners will make the ultimate decision via weekly SMS voting while making or breaking the credibility of their favourite jocks.

The collaboration is intended to strengthen Motorola's leadership in the mobile music and entertainment industry and is supposedly a new format of local radio broadcasting.

Sarit Reouveni, marketing manager for Motorola in sub-Saharan Africa, says, "We are constantly striving to identify opportunities which will spark positive public debate and promote the creation of popular music and entertainment trends. Motorola has a host of innovative products and designs which support our passion and enthusiasm for the music and entertainment industry. We select our brand collaborations very carefully and as such, we are extremely excited to be launching MOTOPlay and hooking up with two of the hottest 5FM DJ's in South Africa.

"Both have an intimate understanding of the music industry and display very unique but always entertaining approaches to presenting. They have built up a loyal fan base amongst the funky youth of this country who form a core part of the Motorola target market."

Gareth Cliff, host of 5FM's new morning drive time show, says, "5FM has changed somewhat recently and the latest show line-up coincides with playing the 'freshest' new music... I'm challenging my good friend DJ Fresh, who kidnapped my old show, to see who really knows their music best."

DJ Fresh's response? "Let's take this on air and let the public decide."
