More than R1-billion transferred via cellphones
Business Live quotes Van Wyk as saying that the bank is, on average, sending about R3-million a day to eWallets belonging to FNB customers. She says that more than 700 000 'wallets' have been created over the past two years.
According to Van Wyk, cell phone banking remains the bank's most popular channel particularly as customers in any income bracket can use and benefit from the system. She says that transfer range from reimbursing a friend for lunch to proving pocket money to children or transferring funds to a distant relative.
FNB's eWallet is available in South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho and Botswana.
